Fifth Annual Talarico Lecture

On April 15, 2014, Deputy Chief  Michael P. Downing of the Los Angeles Police Department delivered the lecture to a capacity crowd gathered in the North Tower of the Miller Learning Center.  As the head of LAPD’s Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Bureau and an influential figure in American policing, Chief Downing spoke on the importance of partnerships between community leaders, federal, state, and local officials in addressing security threats associated with violent extremism.

The event is named in memory of Dr. Talarico, a long-time director of the Criminal Justice Studies Program, who passed away in 2007.  With support from the Susette M. Talarico Fund, the Criminal Justice Society, the Departments of Political Science and Sociology, this lecture series has brought practitioners and scholars to campus to speak on a wide variety of current issues in criminal justice.
